Washington, DC – The Capital City Go-Go fell short at home against the Windy City Bulls 103-102, after blowing up a 15-point lead. Since the tip off, the match between these two teams was a display of modern basketball, both executing fast -ace ball movement and scoring through quick transitions, shooting at will from deep and playing aggressive defense.
Both teams shared the lead six times and tied the game nine times only in the fourth quarter. At the end, the Windy City Bulls took advantage of the Go-Go’s defensive fatigue by attacking the block, finding the open shooters and connecting on clutch triples provided by 6-5 guard Scottie Lindsey to assure the win.
For the Capital City Go-Go’s and coming from the bench, 6-9 forward Isaiah Todd led the team in scoring with 20 points, going 4-of-8 from the three-point line, utilizing his length shooting above smaller defenders. Combo forward/center and NBA veteran 6-10 Greg Monroe played aggressive defense and effective offense, putting pressure on the Windy City Bulls wings with explosive moves and strong finishes from anywhere in the paint.
Monroe added 17 points (7-of-12), 12 rebounds and six assists to maintain the lead for his team. 6-6 Jordan Schackel tried to step up after a very quiet first half, scoring 15 points (5-of-10) and 3-of-8 from behind the arc. Former 6-4 Gonzaga guard Joel Ayayi also supported his team by adding 11 points (5-of-9) from the field, with great hesitation moves in the isolation offensive sets, imposing size and physicality on guards.
The Windy City Bulls were able to take the lead thanks to a consistent offensive mindset and key play from 6-1 guard Devon Dotson. Dotson punished the host team all night, especially when starting the break for consistent baskets in transition along with big contributions in other aspects of the game. He scored 21 points (9-of-19), showing great court vision with seven assists, five rebounds and five steals including the dagger to seal the victory.
Scottie Lindsey’s range from deep came alive in the second half, connecting two back-to-back threes down the stretch to tie the game, thanks to his length, ball handling and balanced shooting progression. Lindsey finished with 16 points (6-of-16) and four rebounds. 6-11 center Marko Simonovic outran his opponents in transition while showing soft touch in the paint and put up 15 points (5-of-10), 11 rebounds and 5-of-5 from the free throw line and left Monroe scoreless for the last 2:25 minutes of the game. 6-4 guard Kerwin Roach and his smooth release and quick first step added 15 points (4-of-8), with an efficient 50 percent from the three-point line (3-of-6).
The Capital City Go-Go (5-3) will face the Westchester Knicks (2-6) January 26 at home. The Windy City Bulls (3-5) will host the Lakeland Magic (2-6) on Tuesday night.
