The NetScouts Basketball USA All-Stars used a balanced attack and stellar team defense to beat Brazil 51-45 before 3,600 fans. The USA is now 3-0 and won the Nan’an City leg of the 9 game tournament .
The Brazilians could only muster 13 points at half and 21 after three periods thanks to the tough team defense of the American squad. Jamie Russell (Illinois St.), Adrian Ritchie (Green Bay), Jacqui Kalin (Northern Iowa), and Lauren Oosdyke (Northern Colorado) all had two or more steals while Sam Ostarello (Purdue), Sam Heck (Evansville), and Morgan Johnson (Iowa) all had seven rebounds. The US out-rebounded the Brazilian side 43-26 and held them to just 33% shooting.
Ritchie led the Americans with nine points as the USA continued to struggle finding the basket. Once again though, every player scored. Team USA shot just 37% including 2-of-11 from behind the three-point arc. After having only six turnovers against Australia, the USA committed 19 tonight.
Chris Denker, NetScouts Basketball USA All-Stars Head Coach
“A wins a win. We’ll take it. To practice only twice as a team and go 3-0 against teams who’ve been working together much longer is a real accomplishment and I’m proud of them.”
“We head to the second stop of a tough 9 game in 12 day stretch and open with the Aussies who we just played. It should be another great battle.”
