Auburn, AL – The No. 8-ranked Auburn Tigers remained one of two undefeated teams in the nation following an 86-59 victory against Lipscomb.
Five players scored at least ten points for Auburn, led by senior 6-7 forward Danjel Purifoy with 17 points and nine rebounds, including six offensive rebounds. Purifoy made 3-of-5 from distance. 6-6 freshman Isaac Okoro and 6-4 Jamal Johnson each added 14 points, with Johnson shooting 4-for-6 from three-point range. Okoro drew a team high nine fouls, finding success posting up and attacking the middle of the Lipscomb zone defense. Austin Wiley, the 6-11 center, added his fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. He also had three blocked shots.
Lipscomb was led by 6-1 KJ Johnson with 17 points. Johnson got to the rim consistently, shooting 5-of-13 from the field, while making 6-of-7 free throws. 6-8 Ahsan Asadullah added 12 points, but was in foul trouble early, with three first half fouls. He made quick low post moves and finished well around the rim, but was often over-matched as a defender.
Auburn (12-0) begins conference play on the road this Saturday against Mississippi State. Lipscomb (5-8) will travel to Stetson for a Atlantic Sun conference match-up on Thursday.
