Body and athleticism
High IQ player with good size and upper body for a low major point guard. Seems more like 6’3’’/6’4’’, a bit smaller than listed. Not a leaper by any means, shows good speed and quickness, but doesn’t seem to have the needed tools to become an explosive slasher at the next level. Good weight for his size, but needs to add more strength which should improve his defensive abilities. Uses his body well to create separation. His motor seems to be shaky, should work on his conditioning.
Shooting
Confident shooter with three-point range, has the potential to become consistent and reliable shooter at the next level with more repetitions thanks to his technically sound stroke - nice, soft touch in combination of good arc and proper tilt of his feet. Sets his body well, even when shooting off the right hand dribble. Can score at all three levels. Has a nice mid-range pull-up game off the dribble with good elevation, able to create separation.
Position and offense
Sees the court very well, knowing where his teammates are on the court, showing good passing ability with either hand. Willing passer. Might be better off the ball thanks to his scoring ability, although has point guard skills. Displays good ball-handling skills, able to change speeds and directions. Shifty player, often uses spin moves when attacking the basket. Has the potential to be a good facilitator off pick and roll actions at the next level. Can finish with either hand, but plays below the rim which might be a reason his drives to be not so effective at the next level. Should work on his game speed. Not an up-tempo point guard, prefers to use the shot clock or speed up the game with a quick, long pass.
Defense and rebounding
Defense might be the biggest challenge and key for him at the next level as doesn’t appear to be constantly engaged on that end of the floor, taking off plays. Doesn’t seem to possess the needed lateral quickness to defend effectively against athletic perimeter players at the next stage. Comes up with occasional steals or runs through passing lanes, but should be more focused and competitive on the defensive end, putting more energy and effort. Shows good rebounding instincts, a plus rebounder for his position.
Miscellaneous
Player with high basketball IQ and competitive spirit. Demands the ball, not shying away from clutch moments. Missed the 2019 U18 European Championships due to a sprained ankle. Has been training for a year with the men’s team. (season 2019-2020) GPA 3.9/4 SAT 1250.
The Greek combo guard should continue to hone his craft, putting more emphasis to his performance on the defensive end of the court and his overall conditioning. Spyroglou’s good understanding of the game in combination of his shooting upside and passing abilities should work out well for him at a school on low-major level.
