Omer Yurtseven of NC State is the NetScouts Basketball International Men’s Player of the Week for games through January 21st. The 7-footer from Turkey contributed heavily in both games last week in a win over Wake Forest (72-63) and in a loss to Miami (86-81). The sophomore big man started the week strong with 22 points and eight rebounds while shooting 56 percent from the field in the win over Wake Forest. He stepped up for an even bigger performance in a tough loss to No. 25 Miami where he knocked down 12-of-16 shots for 28 points, to go along with six rebounds and a pair of blocks. On the week, he averaged 25 points and seven rebounds on 65.6 percent shooting.
Kia Nurse of the UConn Huskies has been named NetScouts Basketball International Women’s Player of the Week for games through January 21st. She helped lead the Huskies to three straight wins. She had 13 points on 3-of-6 from the field and 6-of-6 from the line to go along with five rebounds in the win over No.9 Texas. She followed that up with a 17 point, two assist performance in a win versus Tulsa (78-60). Her week was capped off with her best performance yet in the blowout win over Temple (113-57) where she had 24 points, six rebounds and four assists. On the week the Canadian averaged 18 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists on 60 percent shooting.
