After the opening ceremony involving speeches from several local dignitaries, the host team, China, and Australia kicked off the second stop on this tour in Zhongxian.
China got excellent guard play from Li Wei (14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) and Li Gong (12 points, 3 rebounds) and jumped on Australia early. In typical fashion, the Aussies kept grinding and found themselves trailing by 10, 34-24 at the half despite China’s hot hand.
China would build on the lead with aggressive, physical defense but much like the first time these two teams met the Aussies would claw their way back into it. This time however it was a little too late and China held on for the 69-60 win.
Tiana Mangakahia continued her stellar play and had 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals to lead the Aussie charge.
Other key contributions came from:
Alanna Smith: 5 points, 6 rebounds
Lauren Scherf: 6 points, 6 rebounds
Danni Pearce: 7 points
Vanessa Panousis: 6 points, 3 assists
Keely Froling: 4 points, 7 rebounds
