Yuling, China – The NetScouts Basketball USA All-Stars (2-1) routed China 94-70 (1-2) before a near capacity crowd of 4,888 tonight in the final night of competition in Yuling. The win ties the USA with Lithuania (2-1) for the Yuling title. Earlier this evening Canada (1-2) upset Lithuania 97-78.
China came out of the gates dominating the USA on the boards, using second chances to draw fouls and put the USA frontcourt of Taylor King, Teeng Akol and Anthony Mason Jr. into foul trouble. With more effort the USA battled evenly on the boards in the second half and created some second chance opportunities of their own.
The second half was all USA as they outscored the Chinese 53-30. Hunter Williams (15 points) came off the bench to drain 5-of-6 three-pointers, four of them in the second half. Greg Howard (17 points) was aggressive all game, taking the ball to the basket and either scoring or drawing fouls (5 fouls received). Mason Jr. has a perfect shooting night hitting all six of his field goal attempts and both of his free throws. Akol and Jordan Swing came on strong after halftime with Swing scoring all nine of his points and Akol becoming aggressive inside.
The USA assisted on 19 of their 25 field goals, moving the ball well and making the extra pass. Troy Brewer came back from two off games and had a solid game with 11 points and three assists.
The team travels to Dushanzi tomorrow which is also located in Xinjiang Province. It’ a one hour flight and a three hour bus ride. The next game is Friday night against Canada.
