Charlotte, NC – The Charlotte 49ers beat the USC Upstate Spartans 83-47 in a one sided game on Saturday evening. The Charlotte 49ers have been excellent at home and they came out aggressive defensively as a unit. Their man to man and help side defense was nearly perfect for the whole game. 49ers guard Malik Martin was the leading scorer with 16 points, with 14 of those in the first half.
Martin attacked the basket at will and he was also solid from the perimeter with three 3-pointers by halftime. 49ers guard Jordan Shepherd was right behind him with 12 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the floor. Shepherd used his overall game by setting his teammates up and shooting efficiently behind the line as well as attacking the rim for easy lay ups. Early in the game, USC Upstate kept it close with a lot of solid ball movement but couldn’t get their rhythm because of the 49ers defense.
USC Upstate guard Tommy Bruner was effective slashing at the basket in the first half and ended the game with eight points in 26 minutes of action. Spartan forward Bryson Mozone used his athleticism and long range shooting to spread the floor. He was USC Upstate’s leading scorer with nine points.
In the second half it got worse for USC Upstate as they kept turning the ball over which created easy points for the 49ers on the foul line and in the open court. At the end the 49ers made it look too easy with their size, athleticism, and fundamentals as they blew out the USC Upstate Spartans by 36 points.
