It’s been rough sledding for the NetScouts Basketball USA-All Stars as they suffered their fourth straight loss in China, this time to Canada 86-62. The Canadians moved to 4-0 for the event.
Dwight Powell (Stanford) led five Canadians in double figures with 12 points and added seven rebounds. Devin Sweetney who had three straight 20+ point games for the Americans was limited to five points on 1-of-10 shooting. The USA shot only 5-of-22 on three-pointers. Canada shot only 7-of-27 from deep but connected on 58 per cent (25-of-43) on two-point shots. Canada had a 36-25 rebounding edge. Roger Franklin led the USA in scoring with 14 points.
No one on Team USA would say they had a good game tonight. Jason Conrad, Jonathon Morse and Derrick Rodgers played with intensity all night but for the most part it was a total team loss.
In the second game China literally beat up Latvia winning in the end by 9. (No box/final as we did not stay leaving at half time.)
USA hopes to avenge their earlier 2 point loss to Latvia this evening but will need a better overall team performance than they had last night.
The USA’s starting five looked sharp starting out the game as they raced out to an early 12-point lead. However Canada caught up after the USA went to their bench. Canada took a three-point lead at the half and stretched the lead to 10-12 for much of the third quarter. Grant Mullins (Columbia) helped put the game away for the Canadians as he drained three shots from deep.
