Laizhou, China – A back and forth affair through the early third quarter turned into an 89-64 runaway victory for the NetScouts Basketball USA All-Stars Team as they played the second game of a three game series against the Chinese National Team.
The game was played in front of a capacity crowd of 3,587 at the Laizhou Sports Complex. The USA All-Stars move to 3-0 on the tour.
The defense for the Americans was stout all game after making a few adjustments during the off day. China never got its offense going and their two top scorers Yuan Shuai and Tao Hanlin were held to just 3 and 14 points respectively.
The USA eventually led by nine, 47-38 at the halftime break as the early offense was led by big men Tom Granado (11 points) and Kevin Kotzur (15 points) as they went to work on Hanlin down low.
Drew Barham continued his hot hand as he led all scorers with 16. Greg Gantt (10), Darren Moore (10) and Kiwi Gardner (10) rounded out the USA All-Stars double-figure scorers.
Coming out after halftime, the Americans quickly saw a three-pointer buried by Shuai, but quickly buckled down on defense and only allowed 27 second half points.
NetScouts Basketball USA All-Stars Head Coach Andrisevic was elated after the game, “I’m really proud of these guys. On one hand, after the last game where China almost came back after being down 20….our guys responded and made a statement that there was no way they were going to let them claw back in this one. Our defense was stout and our bigs and wings did a great job of keeping them off the glass on misses… we moved the ball well on offense… and we had a great result. Great effort and now we need to be ready to do it one more time tomorrow.”
Everyone is off to bed early tonight as both teams must depart at 6:30am and head on to the next city of Tai’an. A short 3-4 hour bus ride awaits us, before an 8pm game.
