Nan’an, China – The NetScouts Basketball USA All-Stars beat China 77-55 to win the Nan’an tournament. It was a hard fought, physical game.
The USA, after a back and forth first quarter, pushed the lead to 17 at the half with a 24-10 second period. The American formula for victory in this game was their inside game offensively, tenacious team defense, and an amazing effort on the boards. Team USA out rebounded China 63-33 on the night and also managed 34 offensive rebounds.
Team USA accomplished an amazing statistic by having three players with double-doubles. Molly Schlemer had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Joy Burke 13 points and 13 boards and Camille Buckley had 11 points and 17 rebounds including 10 on the offensive end.
Amber Moore was the fourth USA player in double figures with 14 points. The USA only shot 33 percent from the field including 2-of-13 on three-pointers. They won the game with their dominance of the boards, by converting on 23-of-28 free throws and by holding China to 28 percent shooting. The USA assisted on 16 of their 26 FG’s.

The USA moves to 6-0 on the trip. The records in Nan’an were: USA (3-0), China (2-1), Australia (1-2) and Slovenia (0-3).
The teams will travel by train to Juijiang in Jiangxi Province tomorrow and resume action there the following day.

In game 1, Australia overcame a key injury to their point guard Maddison Rocci and beat Slovenia 62-43. The night before, Bride Kennedy-Hopoate had twisted her ankle against the Americans and then in training this morning, Rocci injured her ankle. Kennedy-Hopoate played a few minutes this evening and seems fine.
Australia led this game throughout although Slovenia made several runs and cut the margin to single digits a time or two but just couldn’t get over the hump. Australia received key contributions from several bench players to protect the margin.
The star of the game for the Aussies was Alexandra Sharp who had 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 11 rebounds. She scored inside, outside and off the dribble and was too much for the European team to handle. Jasmine Forcadilla saw increased minutes with the absence of Rocci and made the most of her chances, scoring 11 points. The Aussies out rebounded Slovenia 47-22 and forced only 22 percent shooting for Slovenia.
