Bronx, NY – With score tied at 67 and seconds remaining on the game clock in overtime, Fordham Rams guard Antoine Anderson converted on an off the dribble jump shot from the top of the key at the buzzer to give Fordham to a 69-67 victory over VCU.
Fordham had much control of the 1st half as they started the game on an 11-2 run led by Javontae Hawkins. Hawkins a 6-5 guard in his final year of eligibility. He led all scorers at the half with 11 points as he continuously penetrated VCU ‘s defense converting on 5-of-6 field goal attempts. He finished the game with 22 points mirroring his play in the first half as he exploited the defensive weak areas from VCU by attacking and finishing at the basket.
The VCU Rams started the second half on a 22 -13 run. VCU senior guard JeQuan Lewis recorded ten assists as he repeatedly got into the lane breaking down Fordham’s defense and setting up teammate Justin Tillman, an athletic forward who converted on numerous dunks and lay ups around the basket. Tillman finished with 22 points which were all scored in the second half.
With .14 seconds remaining in regulation Mo Alie-Cox of VCU converted on two free throws, which tied the score 58-58 and sent the game into overtime.
Anderson led Fordham with 15 points including the game-winning jumper. Fordham improved to 8-11 on the season, 2-4 in the Atlantic 10. VCU is now 14-5 on the season and 4-2 in the Atlantic 10.
