Corvallis, OR – There was great energy in Gill Coliseum generated from the 5,438 Beaver Nation fans for Oregon State as they battled the Long Beach State 49ers of the Big West Conference. The Beavers come away victorious 89-81 and move to 2-1 in the young season.
Oregon State controlled the game for 38:21 of the 40 minutes. The game was relatively sloppy in the first half as there were a combined 22-turnovers by both teams, each team committing 11 turnovers. Despite those turnovers, the Beavers lead 40-31 at the half, a half that was dominated by the 6-10 junior forward Drew Eubanks. Eubanks finished the first half with two emphatic monster slams to go along with this his 16 points and seven rebounds. He continued his all-around play in the second half, and finished the game with 26 points (8-8 FT’s), 11 rebounds, and two blocks in 37-minutes. Stephen Thompson Jr. also began to find his shooting rhythm as he drove himself to the free throw line seven times and netted 17 points, six rebounds and two assists. The most consistent Beaver on the young season, 6-8 forward Tres Tinkle finished the game with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Long Beach State’s standouts were 6-5, 200-lb junior Guard Bryan Alberts who scored 19 points, 17 coming in the second, and received consistent play from 6-5 junior Guard/Forward Barry Ogalue who finished with 17-points (5-6 FT’s), five-rebounds and three assists.
