Shawn Long had two dominant performances on the road as Louisiana Lafayette picked up a pair of conference victories. The Morgan City, Louisiana native has been named NetScouts Basketball’s National Player of the Week for games from January 11th to January 17th.
The 6-foot-9 senior forward began the week with 23 points, 17 rebounds, three steals and two blocks as the Ragin’ Cajuns defeated Georgia Southern. Long followed with another dominant double-double, posting 23 points and 18 rebounds in a 87-54 win over Georgia State. On the week, Long averaged 23.0 points, 17.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 76% (19-25) from the field.
Long has shown flashes of dominance this season that have sparked NBA intrigue. He’s now posted 11 double-doubles this season as Louisiana Lafayette improved to 3-3 in conference play.
Dyshawn Pierre had a productive week as Dayton defeated Davidson and George Washington. The Whitby, Ontario native has been named NetScouts Basketball’s International Player of the Week for games from January 11th to January 17th.
The 6-foot-6 forward opened with a 16-point, 10-rebound performance in an 80-74 win against Davidson. Pierre then scored 26 points, including five three-pointers, and added five rebounds as Dayton topped George Washington 77-70. The senior averaged 21.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 61.9% (13-21) from the field, 46.7% (7-15) from deep and 90% (9-10) from the free throw line.
While Pierre missed the first 11 games of the season due to a suspension, Dayton has been 5-1 since his return and started conference play with a 4-1 record. With Pierre back in the lineup, the Flyers could push for their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
