The 6-foot-5 senior guard opened the week with 22 points, five assists, five steals, and three rebounds as Bucknell cruised to an 88-58 victory over Navy. Hass then exploded for 40 points on the road in an 84-76 win at Army while shooting 13-of-19 from the field and 4-of-6 from deep. On the week, Hass averaged 31.0 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per game while shooting 67.7% (21-31) from the field, 63.6% (7-11) from three-point range, and 86.7% (13-15) from the free throw line. He also committed just three turnovers in 57 minutes of action.
Bucknell snapped a seven-game losing streak with the back-to-back wins as the Bison opened conference play 2-0. Hass has been leading the way this year, averaging 20.1 points per contest, and will look to end his collegiate career with a Patriot League title.
Ben Simmons entered the season with plenty of hype and the freshman has lived up to expectations early on. After leading LSU to a road win over Vanderbilt, the Melbourne, Australia native has been named NetScouts Basketball’s International Player of the Week for games from December 28th to January 3rd.
Although LSU began the week with a 77-71 loss to Wake Forest, Simmons posted 21 points and 12 rebounds in 37 minutes of action. He then led the Tigers to a 90-82 win in the conference opener against Vanderbilt, scoring 36 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. In total, the 6-foot-10 forward averaged 28.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 65.2% (15-23) from the field and 77.1% (27-35) from the stripe.
The freshman sensation has emerged as the favorite for the number one pick in the upcoming draft and backed up his soaring stock this week. As an athletic 6-foot-10 forward with playmaking ability, Simmons is a rare specimen that could be the fourth straight international product to be the top selection in the NBA Draft.
