Joventut Badalona proved themselves the class of the Euroleague’s 2013 Nike International Junior Tournament (NIJT) in London as they easily dispatched their rival Regal Barcelona 82-59 to win the tournament.
Joventut pulled away at the start and enjoyed a 46-29 halftime lead. They extended the lead to a surprising 70-37 after three quarters and coasted to the victory. Joventut won all its NIJT games by double-figures and after winning the L’Hospitalet qualifying tournament earlier this season proved themselves to be the elite youth team on the continent. 6’6 Alberto Abalde led the winners with 18 points, hitting 8-for-14 from the field and pulled down nine rebounds. Augusti Sans had a great game at the point, scoring 14 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field including two three-pointers, grabbed five rebounds and had six assists against no turnovers. Jose Nogues added 13 points and seven boards. Marc Garcia continued his fine play for Barcelona with 18 points, hitting 4-of-7 three pointers. Adria Cantenys added 14 points and 7 rebounds.
