This women’s recap cover games in the week ending Tuesday, December 25th.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MAGGIE LUCAS (Penn State, Jr., Guard)
- The Nittany Lions’ junior, Maggie Lucas had an outstanding offensive game on Sunday in an 82-37 win over NJIT. Although it was not Penn State’s most difficult game, Lucas’ performance was nothing short of. Lucas scored 13 first-half points and was 5-for-8 from 3-point range overall. She had a total of 21 points for the game in 26 minutes of action. She is shooting 52.6 percent behind the arc for the season.
GAME OF THE WEEK
(No.1) STANFORD @ (No.10) TENNESSEE
- The Cardinal remains undefeated as they went on to defeat the No. 10 ranked Lady Vols in Knoxville 73-60. Leading the Stanford offense, as always, was Chiney Ogwumike with 21 points and 19 rebounds. This game was a major test of this Stanford team, as the last time the Cardinal won at Tennessee was on Dec. 15, 1996. Throughout the game, Stanford never trailed the Vols, making this an even more frustrating game than the loss to Baylor for Tennessee. The Tennessee offense was lead by Bashaara Graves with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
(No.2) CONNECTICUT @ (No.1) STANFORD—Saturday 12/29/12 @ 4pm
- These top two teams are both still undefeated this season, meaning that only one team will come out maintaining that perfect record. Stanford’s offense has been a force to be reckoned with thanks to junior Chiney Ogumike, who leads the team in both points per game, 21.5, and rebounds, 13.1. Statistically, UConn scores more points and allows less points per game than Stanford, however, they have not yet faced a team that is at the same caliber as this Cardinal team.
