GAME OF THE WEEK
(No.19) UNC @ NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL
- In Wednesday game in Durham, the Tar Heels walked away with the win, 49-21. However, their win tied program records for the fewest points scored in a win and the fewest points allowed. It was also the lowest scoring game in the program’s history. The Tar Heels were lead by senior Tierra Ruffin-Pratt, who had 14 points, and sophomore Brittany Rountree with 11 points. N.C. Central’s freshman forward, Tisha Dixon, looked solid against the competition to lead her team with 8 points and 12 rebounds.
(No.13) TENNESSEE @ (No.3) BAYLOR—Tues. 12/18/12
- This game is sure to be the Lady Vols toughest game of the season as reigning champs and currently 3rd ranked Baylor has been ruthless in their fight to return to the championship this year. Statistically, Tennessee has averaged more points per game at 86.0, whereas the Lady Bears average 82.3. However, the Bears’ defense is stellar and only allows, on average, 54.6 points per game. Baylor’s senior, Brittney Griner is always a hot topic and is currently averaging 21.4 points, 12th in the nation.
- In order for the Vols to win this game, they will have to find a way to shut down the 6’8” center. Tennessee will be looking to junior, Meighan Simmons to lead the offensive end. Simmons is coming off a 33-point career-high in leading Tennessee to a 102-57 romp over #19 North Carolina on December 2nd. The Vols get a tough test at #18 Texas two nights prior to the Baylor game.
