GAME OF THE WEEK
(No.3) BAYLOR vs. (No.5) NOTRE DAME
- This game was a rematch of last season’s National Championship and Baylor, the reigning champs, sought to keep the outcome the same. The Lady Bears defeated the Irish 73-61. Senior Brittney Griner had 24 points and 14 rebounds for Baylor. Odyssey Sims made an impact on the game after returning from a hamstring injury. She scored 16 points to help lead the Lady Bears to victory. Notre Dame freshman Jewell Loyd had a season high 24 points. Kayla McBride scored 18 points and Natalie Achonwa had 11 points. No one else scored for the Irish.
(No.4) DUKE vs. ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY
- Last season, St. John’s lost to the Blue Devils in the Sweet 16 round. In this game they will be looking for payback. The 4-2 Red Storm will be looking to Senior Guard Nadirah McKenith, who averages 18 ppg, to lead their offense past the 7-0 Duke Blue Devils.
(No.12) TEXAS vs. (No.17) UCLA
- 5-0 Longhorns will be taking on 4-1 Bruins in L.A. on Sunday Dec. 8. Both teams prove to be pretty even statistically. However, Texas’ defense allows fewer points to be scored against them. It should be a close game. Texas will be expecting sophomore, Nneka Enemkpali to lead their offense; she is leading the team with an average of 18.7 ppg. On the other hand, UCLA’s senior, Markel Walker averages 18.4 ppg and hopes to aid her team in a defeat over the Longhorns.
