GAME OF THE WEEK
(No.1) BAYLOR @ (No.3) CONNECTICUT—Monday 2/18/13
- This much-anticipated game between two of the best teams in basketball ended with Baylor maintaining their 24 game winning streak and Brittney Griner having a historic showing. The 6’8” senior reached 3,000 career points, making her only one of eight women to ever do so. She also became the first woman to have 500 blocked shots. Although Griner had a rough start, she answered back after half time with 21 crucial points to ultimately lead the Lady Bears to a 76-70 win. For the Huskies, sophomore Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis carried the offense with 26 points and 15 rebounds, but it was not enough to maintain a lead over the Lady Bears.
(No.15) NORTH CAROLINA @ (No.5) DUKE—Sunday 3/3/13 4:00PM ET
- These two teams meet again, but this time on Duke’s turf. The two rivals played each other early last month, which resulted in a 60-42 win for the Duke Blue Devils. The Blue Devils lead the entire game and gave the Tar Heels their first home loss. The Tar Heels have much to prove in this second face off and hope to crush Duke’s 10 game win streak. North Carolina is lead by senior Tierra Ruffin-Pratt with 14.4 points per game and 4.4 assists averaged. The Blue Devils’ offense is held up by sophomore Elizabeth Williams with 15.2 points per game and junior Haley Peters who averages 7.4 rebounds per game.
