GAME OF THE WEEK
(No.5) DUKE @ (No.11) NORTH CAROLINA—Sunday 2/3/13 1:00PM ET
- This well-known rivalry was much anticipated, seeing that both teams looked to be evenly matched. However, No. 5 ranked Duke came out on top, defeating the Tar Heels 84-63. Duke dominated the game with the largest lead being 33 points. The Tar Heels did not lead all game. This would be the first loss on home turf for North Carolina. The Blue Devil’s Chloe Wells scored a career-high 18 points and junior Tricia Liston added 15 off the bench. Duke had the game from the start with a 29-3 run over 10 minutes, and led by 31 points at halftime. In the second half, the Tar Heels showed they still had some fight in them, closing the score 60-42 with 12 1/2 minutes left, but it was not enough. Tierra Ruffin-Pratt scored 18 points to lead the Tar Heels’ offense.
(No.22) OKLAHOMA STATE @ (No.23) OKLAHOMA—Sunday 2/10/13 5:00PM ET
- In another well-known rivalry, the Oklahoma State Cowgirls will be traveling to Norman, Oklahoma to face the Oklahoma Sooners. Both Big 12 teams have a similar record, 16-5 for the Cowgirls and 17-5 for the Sooners. After losing to two Big 12 schools in the same week, Oklahoma State is looking to get back on track and take the conference by storm, much like last season. The Cowgirls’ top offensive player is Toni Young, who is leading the team with 16.1 points per game and averages 9.5 rebounds. The Sooners’ key player is Aaryn Ellenberg who scores at 19.2 points per game.
