GAME OF THE WEEK
(No. 5) NOTRE DAME @ (No.1) CONNECTICUT—Saturday 1/5/13
- The Huskies undefeated streak lasted 12 straight games but could not withstand the Irish. In a close 73-72 match between two rivals, Notre Dame came into this game with something to prove after losing 3 key starters from last season. By halftime, however, the Irish had the lead with a score of 38-36. Star senior Skylar Diggins had 19 points, many of them key points late in the game, and junior Kayla McBride’s 21 points held up the Notre Dame offense. The Huskies relied on their offensive powerhouse Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, who proved reliable after accounting for 17 points.
(No.18) SOUTH CAROLINA @ (No.13) GEORGIA—Sunday 1/13/13 @ 5pm
- Both the Gamecocks and Bulldogs have 13-2 records and are fairly evenly matched statistically. South Carolina averages 47.4 points allowed per game; Georgia allows 50.1 points. While this shows that South Carolina is defensively strong, Georgia has an intense offense that has averaged 73.0 points per game this season. The Lady Bulldogs’ senior guard Jasmine James leads the offense with 12.2 points per game. South Carolina’s sophomore forward Aleighsa Welch leads the Gamecock’s offense with 12.1 points per game.
