WCC Tournament Thoughts on St. Mary’s

The Gaels are dancing! Randy Bennett and his squad played good basketball and thoroughly dismantled their two biggest threats in the WCC, Portland and Gonzaga, to earn the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Bennett and his staff have done a nice job with this group after losing Patty Mills (Portland Trail Blazers - NBA) and Diamon Simpson (LA D-Fenders - NBADL) last year.  He also lost starter Wayne Hunter to a… Continue reading

MVP: Mickey McConnell, 6'0 Jr. PG, St. Mary's: Had two great games for the Gaels including 16 points & 4 assists in the semi-final win over Portland and their All-WCC point guard T.J. Campbell then poured in 26 points to go along with 6 assists and 4 steals in the championship win over Gonzaga. Omar Samhan, 6'10 Sr. C, St. Mary's:  He's the emotional leader for St. Mary's and topped off… Continue reading

WCC Tournament Thoughts on Gonzaga

St. Mary's thumped Gonzaga to win the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championship and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.  The Zags will undoubtedly receive a bid, although not as good of a seed as you would have thought a few weeks ago. Since beating St. Mary's back on February 11th, Gonzaga crept into the top ten in the polls then lost to Loyola Marymount 74-66 in Los Angeles.  Although… Continue reading

I had the pleasure of appearing on the "Fantasy Sports and Politics" radio show on Blog Talk Radio yesterday to discuss with them the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and we briefly hit on the NFL agreement as well. Both leagues are in the final year of their agreement and walk-outs or lockouts are looming.  We hit on a lot of issues so if you are interested in listening to the… Continue reading

Euroleague Basketball Weekly Bullets

Although they haven't clinched a spot in the Euroleague playoffs (Final 8), Cibona Zagreb can celebrate the rise of another major talent, Bojan Bogdanovic, one of the Euroleague's youngest weekly MVP's ever! After his team suffered through three consecutive three-point losses in Group H, the 20-year-old forward exploded on Wednesday to lead Cibona to a blowout 82-63 home win against Khimki Moscow Region. Bogdanovic was lethal from long distance, making 6… Continue reading

Living His Dream, Playing College Basketball

We recently named Utah State University point guard Jared Quayle as our NetScouts Basketball WAC Player of the Year. Quayle has the Aggies on a 14 game winning streak and hope to continue that run heading into the WAC tourney in Reno. As little kids we all dream of playing college or professional basketball and although I'm not sure he'll play in the NBA, Quayle will play internationally.  Right now though… Continue reading

NBA Scouts Noticing Harvard’s Jeremy Lin

*This is an updated post It's amazing how a guy can go from not recruited to potential NBA draft pick. Jeremy Lin led Palo Alto (CA) HS to back-to-back state finals in California including one championship win over Mater Dei and NorCal Player of the Year honors, yet despite his individual accomplishments and team success, he went basically ignored by the Division 1 schools in Northern California. According to many involved in the… Continue reading
