Kansas State recruit Leticia Romero was sensational in leading Spain to a 60-46 win over France in the championship game of the U18 European Championship for Women (Division A).
Romero finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. She helped put the game away for Spain, highlighting a nine-point run that turned a one-point lead to ten. She completed an old-fashioned three-point play as she was fouled on a drive and then finished the run with a three-pointer from distance. Romero was helped by teammate Maria Arrojo’s 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Spain dominated the boards against the taller French squad by a 45-37 margin and held France to under 30% shooting. Spain has won the gold medal at all four European women’s tournaments this summer. Clementine Morateur led France with 17 points and five rebounds.
Serbia took the bronze medal, topping the Netherlands 57-56 on a shot in the paint by Dragana Stankovic at the buzzer. Stankovic led the winners with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Laura Cornelius led the Netherlands with 19 points.

At the U18 Division B European Championships for Women played in Hungary, Poland topped Belgium 60-55 to win the title. Angelika Stankiewicz led the winners with 18 points and six rebounds. Both teams move up to Division A for next year’s competitions. Lithuania took third place with a 59-56 win over Latvia.
Borislava Hristova (Bulgaria) led the event in scoring with 27.6 ppg. Veneta Birina (Latvia) was the leading rebounder with 11.6 per game and Julie Allemand (Belgium) was tops in assists at 4.6 per game.
