The last day of the Nike International Junior Tournament Rome (NIJT), sponsored by the Euroleague, started with the win of Mas Mandoulides over Virtus Siena. This game confirmed the technical skills of point guard Andreas Christodoulou who scored 26 points. The Italian point forward PierFrancesco Oliva, had a complete game with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 blocks.
The final for fifth place was easily won by Stella Azzurra over Virtus Bologna. The star of the game was Andrea La Torre (6’6″, 1997) who exploded in the last match with a great performance: 19 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in only 21 minutes.
The third step of the podium was filled by Brose Basket, the surprise of the tournament. Thanks to a great performance of Dino Dizdarevic (20 points), the triples of the sharp shooter Andreas Obst (15-of-26 behind the arc in the four games) and the complete performance of the point guard David Taylor (13 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and only 1 turnover), the German team won easily against a good Unicaja Malaga squad.
In the final game Spars Sarajevo downed Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul behind an unstoppable performance of the big man Doko Salic (29 points and 11 rebounds). Salic was subsequently named MVP of the event. But we can’t forget the forward Nedim Buza (13 points) and the point guard Aleksej Nikolic (18 points and 8 rebounds) both named to the All-Tournament team. An excellent effort by Fenerbahce point guard Berk Ugurlu (6’3″, 1996) could not affect the outcome. Ugurlu finished with 24 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals and was named to the All-Tournament team along with Ruben Guerrero (6’11.5″, 1995) of Unicaja Malaga and Andreas Obst of Brose Basket.
