At NetScouts Basketball we love international basketball and travel around the world scouting players and running camps and I’ve had the good fortune to live and coach in Europe as well so I hope you like reading about Euro basketball as much as we do.
- London’s Pops Mensah-Bonsu was recently signed by Besiktas Milangaz in Turkey, the same club that the NBA’s Deron Williams played for during the NBA lockout. Mensah-Bonsu made his debut for the club in a BEKO Basketbol Ligi defeat at Banvit on Saturday and on Tuesday, he competed in the EuroChallenge for the first time. His performance in a 96-59 romp at BG Göttingen bodes Pops and the GB national team, with the Olympics just several months away…in London, England! Mensah-Bonsu, 28, showed that he is healthy and back to playing a high level of basketball by scoring 21 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
- Spanish SG Rudy Fernandez who was traded last June by the Portland Trail Blazers to the Dallas Mavs was just moved again. He is now a Denver Nugget, playing for George Karl, one of the few American coaches who has coached in Spain. Rudy played for Real Madrid during the NBA Lockout and will make around $2.1million this season.
- Rudy’s Spanish National Team amigo Marc Gasol signed a nice deal to stay in Memphis. The Grizzlies will pay the 7’0 Center $57.7 Million over the next four seasons. Who picks up the tab when he and brother Pau go for tapas?
- Our friend, Raul Jimenez of Spain has been named Head Coach of the FS Debrecen club in Hungary A-Division. Raul is active on Twitter @rjmbasket08 and has a blog worth reading at rjmbasket.blogspot.com. He had been an assistant coach at Ourense in the LEB Gold League in Spain. Congrats Raul!
