This week’s NetScouts Basketball Players of the Week (Major Conferences) have a similar theme as four of the seven honorees are freshman.
Big East Co-Players of the Week
Eli Carter, Rutgers, 6’1 G, Fr
Carter averaged 27.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals in a 1-1 week for the Scarlet Knights, which included an 85-83 double-overtime win against No. 10 Florida. In the victory over Florida, he scored a career-high 31 points and made the game-winning basket. Carter also had seven rebounds and seven assists. He scored a game-high 23 points in a 67-65 loss at USF.
With the Johnnies struggling, Harkless gave them something to smile about by averaging 24 points and 9.5 boards for the week.
He set a BIG EAST record by scoring 32 points in his first league game, a 91-67 win against Providence. He had 16 points and six boards in an 83-69 loss at Connecticut.
ACC Player of the Week
NC State’s Lorenzo Brown 6’5 G, So.
Brown averaged 19.0 points, 8.0 assists and 5.5 rebounds in leading the Wolfpack to 2-0 record last week. In Thursday’s win over Campbell, Brown had 24 points, eight assists and eight steals. He had 14 points and eight assists against Western Carolina.
6’5 Freshman G/F Tony Wroten is the Pac-12 Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points, 6.5 points and 4.5 assists in a sweep over the Oregon schools in Washington’s first two conference games.
Wroten had 26 points and career-high nine rebounds in a 95-80 victory over Oregon State and in UW’s 76-60 win against Oregon, Wroten had 17 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
Wroten is averaging 21 points per game over his last five outings.
Bryce Cartwright, I0wa – The 6’1 Sr. PG averaged 12.5 points and 4.5 assists on the week, including a 17-point performance that led Iowa to a 72-65 win over then-No. 11 Wisconsin earning him the Big Ten Player of the Week award.
Kansas junior Thomas Robinson has been named NetScouts Basketball’s Big 12 Player of the Week.
A 6-10 forward from Washington, D.C., Robinson averaged 19.5 points and 14.0 rebounds as Kansas recorded victories over Howard (89-34) and North Dakota (84-58).
Robinson’s posted career-highs of 30 points and 21 rebounds against North Dakota.
SEC Player of the Week
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky, 6’7 PF, Fr.
MKG Averaged 21 points and 12.5 rebounds in wins over Louisville (69-62) and Lamar (86-64) including a game high 24 points and 19 rebounds against in-state rival Louisville.
