The Euroleague has completed the third game of the schedule. After the three games there are only four undefeated teams remaining: Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv (Group B), Zalgiris Kaunas (Group C) and Group D’s FC Regal Barcelona and CSKA Moscow.
Here are the standings:
Group A: Real Madrid, Panathinaikos and Fenerbahce Ulker (all 2-1) and Cantu, Union Olimpija and BC Khimki (all 1-2).
Group B: Maccabi Tel Aviv (3-0), Alba Berlin and Unicaja Malaga (2-1), Asseco Prokom and Elan Chalon (1-2) and Montepaschi Siena (0-3).
Group C: Zalgiris (3-0), Anadolu Efes and Armani Milan (2-1), Caja Laboral and Olympiacos (1-2) and Cedevita Zagreb (0-3).
Group D: Regal Barcelona and CSKA (3-0), Besiktas Istanbul (2-1), Lietuvos Rytas (1-2) and Partizan Begrade and Brose Baskets (both 0-3).
Sonny Weems (Arkansas) of CSKA Moscow was the October player of the month. Weems averaged 20.3 ppg and is the Euroleague’s top scorer in leading his team to a 3-0 mark. He scored 29 of his 61 total points in the fourth quarter or in overtime. Weems shot 62.8% (22-for-35) from the field including 3-of-6 on three-pointers. He scored 30 points in CSKA’s 76-71 overtime win over Partizan Belgrade.
Curtis Jerrells (Baylor) of Besiktas Istanbul is second in scoring at 20.0 ppg. Jerrells scored a game-high 27 points in a 86-71 win over Brose Baskets. Jordan Farmar (UCLA) a six-year NBA veteran playing his first year overseas with Andalou Efes is averaging 19.3 ppg, 6.7 apg and 6.7 rpg. He’s leading the Euroleague with a Performance Index Rating of 26.7.
Rudy Fernandez (Real Madrid) is playing well after his return from the NBA. He’s third in scoring at 19.7 ppg. Aron Baynes (Washington State) is leading Union Olimpija averaging a double-double with 15.3 ppg and 10.0 rpg. Baynes is #1 in the Euroleague in rebounding and is averaging 5.0 offensive boards per game. NBA veteran Shelden Williams (Duke, Elan Chalon) has also gotten off to a nice start. Williams is tied for second in rebounding at 8.7 per game and is scoring 11.3 ppg.
Jerel Blassingame (UNLV, Asseco Prokom) is leading the Euroleague in assists at 9.3 per game. Farmar is third and Omar Cook (St. John’s, Armani Milan) is fifth.
