Indianapolis, IN – The Butler Bulldogs were locked into a defensive battle with the Chattanooga Mocs as the first half closed with a score of 25-22. The Bulldogs took full control of the game in the second half behind junior Kellen Dunham’s 26 points as they pulled away to a 70-48 victory.
Dunham put on a shooting display going 7-for-12 from the field and 10-for-12 from the line. Dunham attacked the Mocs defense off the dribble and running off screens. He has the ability to shoot the ball from NBA range and will continue to be a nightmare for defenses. On the defensive end he stays in front of his man and communicates well with his teammates rarely missing a rotation. Overall, Dunham is an incredibly smart player that has the potential to be an All-American level player by the time he finishes school if he can continue to add mass to his 185 pound frame.
The other face of Butler’s program is 6’4” junior guard Roosevelt Jones. Jones had a rough night shooting the ball against the Mocs going 3-for-11 from the field and 2-for-6 from the free throw line. Jones did contribute seven assists and four boards to help the Bulldogs power through Chattanooga. He really struggled finishing around the basket which could be contributed to the Mocs defenders length. Jones’ shot is very flat compared to your typical jump shot which is going to make things difficult for him when competing against longer or bigger defenders. He also has a tendency to attempt alley-oop passes, while he only had two turnovers this evening, during the game it seemed as if he puts his big men in bad spots on the floor with the ball. Jones is a tweener type of player with the body of a forward but the height of a guard. He is going to have to solve the puzzle that is his jump shot in order for the Bulldogs to maximize their potential as a team. Otherwise, like tonight, defenders will sag off him and wait for his drive attempt.
