The following are NetScouts Basketball’s National Players of the Week for games played through February 3, 2013.
Jack Cooley, Notre Dame, Sr., Forward
The 6’9, 246-pound Cooley put up monster numbers for the Irish during the week averaging 21.5 points and 16.0 rebounds in two victories. In a 65-60 win against Villanova, Cooley put up 17 points and grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds. Cooley followed that with another double-double in a 79-71 overtime win against DePaul scoring a season-high 26 points and grabbing 16 rebounds once more. For the week, Cooley shot 15-for-27 (55.5 percent).
Brittney Griner, Baylor, Sr., Center
Griner averaged 35 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists to go along with five blocks per game this week in wins over Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. In a 90-60 win over Texas Tech, Griner poured in 40 points as she passed Oklahoma State’s Andrea Riley for the Big 12 career scoring record. She also had 15 rebounds, seven blocks and four assists in the contest, in which she shot 17-of-25. Griner followed that up with a 30-point, 10-rebound, seven assist, three blocks effort in an 81-62 win at Oklahoma State. She shot 12-of-18 from the field. For the week, Griner connected on 29-of-43 (67.4 percent) from the field.
