Croatia topped Ukraine 84-72, as they advanced to the semifinals for the first time in 18 years. It was the eighth straight win of the tournament for Croatia, the top winning streak of the event.
Krunoslav Simon was the star for Croatia, hitting five of his first seven three-point attempts and finished with a game-high 23 points. Ukraine, on the other hand, made only 3-for-22 from downtown compared to 10-of-23 for the winners. Croatia looked more efficiently for the open man and dished out 22 assists, while Ukraine had only 12. Ukraine lost the game in the second quarter, as they were outscored 29-13, went six minutes without scoring and shot 0-of-10 from long distance.
Croatia will face Lithuania in the semifinals. Lithuania booked the final spot in the semi-finals by knocking off Italy 81-77. Trailing 58-57 going into the fourth quarter, Lithuania held Italy scoreless for almost six minutes while going on a 15-0 run to take control of the game.
Mantas Kalnietis collected 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists while making eight-of-12 shots from the field to spearhead the Lithuanians. Renaldis Seibutas had his best game for Lithuania with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Marco Belinelli led Italy with 22 points. Lithuania shot 54.5% from the field while out-rebounding Italy 38-to-25 and holding the Italians to just 44.6% from the field.
Defending champion Spain was the first team into the semifinals as they had no problem with Serbia in their easy 90-60 win. Spain got off to a 21-5 lead after the first quarter, led 48-23 at the half and coasted the rest of the way.
Spain spread out the minutes after the half but received excellent performances from Sergio Rodriguez and Rudy Fernandez. Rodriguez scored 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting, made two three-pointers, had four assists with no turnovers. Fernandez made all four of his three-pointers while scoring 19 points. Marc Gasol only played 22 minutes, scoring seven points with five rebounds and six assists. However his best stat was the +40 point differential Spain enjoyed while Gasol was on the floor.
Spain with face France in the semifinals in a highly anticipated game. France topped host Slovenia 72-62 as Tony Parker scored 27 points. Nicolas Batum played a solid all-around game with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Boris Diaw was also a huge factor with 10 points and six rebounds.
Slovenia was fighting back into the game and trailed 54-49 when Batum raced down court on a break-away layup, converted and hit the extra free throw. Nando De Colo knocked down a jumper less than a minute later and France extended their lead to ten points with six minutes to play.
Goran Dragic led Slovenia with 18 points and had six assists. Slovenia will play for fifth place after defeating Serbia 92-74 earlier today. They will face the winner of the Italy-Ukraine game.
